Work through the stages in order. Open the linked plans to make the relevant observations, then return here to keep the result.
STAGE 1
Match the actual housing
Choose the removable-key Smart Entry design from the two official drawings before selecting a battery.
Keep: Housing feature, CR2032 cell and cloth-wrapped coin plan; an unmatched key remains unresolved.
- Identify the remote before choosing a battery No current task record
STAGE 2
Replace the confirmed smart-key cell
Preserve polarity and buttons, then refit cover and built-in key.
Keep: Cell marking, fitted polarity and closure/retention observations.
- Replace the smart-entry key battery No current task record
STAGE 3
Repeat the parked response check
Separate a replaced cell from a remote that responds reliably after assembly.
Keep: Two parked response observations, retained key/cover and an inspection request if response is unreliable.
- Replace the smart-entry key battery No current task record
Review your next step
- The actual remote matches the original Smart Entry housing.
- CR2032 and fitted polarity are recorded.
- A repeat button response and secure cover/key are observed.
Include the unresolved items so this record is useful at the next check or service visit.
Complete task plans
Read each linked plan here, or open its task page to keep a separate observation record. Printed copies include every plan.
Identify the remote before choosing a battery
Make a battery and opening-tool plan from the actual original key housing.
Vehicle: 2015 Honda Fit · US
Applicability and exclusions
- Other model years and markets; imported Jazz or Fit Hybrid; modified or aftermarket components with a different procedure.
Preparation, tools and materials
- Park in a safe place away from traffic. Work with the vehicle stationary, parking brake set and ignition off unless a step explicitly calls for a parked functional check.
- Can you inspect the original key without opening a damaged or modified housing?
- Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
- Good lighting
- Both official remote drawings
- No battery purchase until the housing is matched
Record the evidence
Capture the external housing feature that determines the cell and tool choice before opening it.
- External housing match
- Matched battery type
- Matched opening tools
- Replacement task or key-service request
Steps
- Compare the outside of the key with the screw-fastened remote on printed page 395. Record whether the cover screw is present.
- Compare it with the Smart Entry Remote on printed page 396. Record whether it has the removable built-in key and the matching cover.
- For the matching screw-fastened original remote, record CR1620 and a small Phillips screwdriver plus a cloth-protected flat-tip screwdriver.
- For the matching original Smart Entry Remote, record CR2032 and a cloth-wrapped coin. A similar-looking aftermarket case needs its own instructions.
- Save the matched housing, battery and matching replacement task. Leave an unmatched remote closed and take the housing description to a key-service provider.
- Capture the external housing feature that determines the cell and tool choice before opening it.
Decision checks
Can you inspect the original key without opening a damaged or modified housing?
- Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.
- Not yet / not sure: Preparation saved. Return when the condition is confirmed; leave the vehicle untouched.
- Wet, corroded, broken or aftermarket remote: Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.
Which housing and battery pair can you positively match?
- Original housing positively matched and correct battery plan recorded: Do the housing, battery and tool plan all refer to the same original remote design?
- Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.: Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.
- I have only prepared the plan: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
Do the housing, battery and tool plan all refer to the same original remote design?
- All three agree with the original housing: Original housing positively matched and correct battery plan recorded
- The observation or repeat check is still incomplete: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
- Mixed battery/tool plan, aftermarket design or damaged housing: Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.
Recheck
Before replacement, does the actual housing still match the chosen manual drawing and battery?
Stop and get help if
- Wet, corroded, broken or aftermarket remote
- Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.
- A part, label, connector or fastener differs from the cited manual; access requires raising the vehicle; you cannot identify the correct component.
Keep for service
Take the recorded observations, their dates and any actual work history to the service provider. Housing cannot be matched or is damaged: take the actual remote to a service provider.

Applicability and exclusions
- Other model years and markets; imported Jazz or Fit Hybrid; modified or aftermarket components with a different procedure.
- Requires confirmed configuration: smart-key.
Preparation, tools and materials
- Park in a safe place away from traffic. Work with the vehicle stationary, parking brake set and ignition off unless a step explicitly calls for a parked functional check.
- Does your original remote have a removable built-in key, matching the Smart Entry Remote drawing on printed page 396?
- Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
- Coin wrapped in a soft cloth
- Clear work tray
- One CR2032 coin cell; match the original cell and polarity.
- Local coin-cell recycling container
Record the evidence
Record the original housing match, CR2032 marking, polarity and the actual button response after closure.
- Removable-key housing match
- Cell marking and fitted polarity
- Parked button response
- Cover and built-in key retention
Steps
- Compare the remote with the official Smart Entry Remote drawing. A conventional key with a screw uses a different task and a CR1620; do not substitute this guide.
- Remove the built-in key. Lay the remote on a clear tray so loose buttons cannot fall away.
- Wrap a coin with a soft cloth and carefully pry at the cover edge shown in the manual. Remove the upper half without losing the buttons.
- Note the fitted cell’s polarity before removing it. Install a CR2032 with the same correct polarity; keep the cell out of children’s reach.
- Seat the cover and built-in key, then test the remote buttons near the stationary car. Keep a working key available; do not lock your only key inside.
- If it still fails, stop reopening or forcing the housing and arrange remote inspection. Dispose of the old cell under local rules.
- Record the original housing match, CR2032 marking, polarity and the actual button response after closure.
Decision checks
Does your original remote have a removable built-in key, matching the Smart Entry Remote drawing on printed page 396?
- Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.
- Not yet / not sure: Preparation saved. Return when the condition is confirmed; leave the vehicle untouched.
- Remote is wet, corroded, broken, swollen or a different design: Still unresponsive, loose cover or uncertain polarity: have the remote checked rather than forcing its contacts.
What happened after reassembly and a stationary button test?
- Cover secure, built-in key retained, remote responds to the button test: Did a second parked button check confirm response with secure cover and key retention?
- Still unresponsive, loose cover or uncertain polarity: have the remote checked rather than forcing its contacts.: Still unresponsive, loose cover or uncertain polarity: have the remote checked rather than forcing its contacts.
- I have only prepared the plan: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
Did a second parked button check confirm response with secure cover and key retention?
- Responds again; cover and built-in key secure: Cover secure, built-in key retained, remote responds to the button test
- The observation or repeat check is still incomplete: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
- Intermittent response, insecure cover or uncertain cell fit: Still unresponsive, loose cover or uncertain polarity: have the remote checked rather than forcing its contacts.
Recheck
Does the assembled remote respond again under the same parked conditions while the cover and built-in key remain secure?
