Your pack record

Work through the stages in order. Open the linked plans to make the relevant observations, then return here to keep the result.

STAGE 1

Record wear, damage and age

Inspect only accessible surfaces and distinguish a sound-looking tire from a professional clearance.

Keep: Wheel-position notes for tread, damage and readable date codes, including the accessible spare.

STAGE 2

Establish a routine cold baseline

For the current standard road tires, use the actual placard and at least three hours parked.

Keep: Actual targets/readings, cold conditions, valve-cap and required TPMS observations.

STAGE 3

Prepare the four-wheel request

Use the actual label and snow-tire instructions to identify the installer’s fitment/pressure questions.

Keep: A four-wheel size/type request and winter pressure/speed-limit confirmation checklist for the installer.

Review your next step

  • Any damaged or repeatedly low tire is still an inspection issue.
  • Routine road-tire readings are separate from the snow-tire pressure requirements.
  • The installer must resolve snow-tire fitment and any stricter limits before use.

Include the unresolved items so this record is useful at the next check or service visit.

Inspect tire wear, damage and age

A ground-level tire inspection to identify a service need; no wheel removal.

Vehicle: 2017 Mazda3 · US

Applicability and exclusions

  • Other model years and markets; imported Axela or diesel models; modified or aftermarket components with a different procedure.

Preparation, tools and materials

  • Park in a safe place away from traffic. Work with the vehicle stationary, parking brake set and ignition off unless a step explicitly calls for a parked functional check.
  • Can all accessible tire surfaces be observed safely with the car on the ground?
  • Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
  • Good lighting
  • Owner’s manual
  • No consumable needed for a visual inspection.

Record the evidence

Record each visible condition and date code by wheel position, including the accessible spare; keep unseen surfaces unknown.

  • Affected wheel positions
  • Visible wear bands and uneven wear
  • Cuts, cracks, bulges or exposed material
  • Observed week/year codes or unreadable positions

Steps

  1. Inspect accessible tread and sidewalls while parked; do not crawl under the vehicle or lift it.
  2. Look for uneven wear, cuts, cracks, bulges and the tread-wear bands. Mazda calls for replacement before the wear band crosses the entire tread.
  3. Find the molded week/year date code, including the spare if accessible. The manual recommends tires generally be replaced at 6 years or older; ask a tire professional if the code is unclear.
  4. Record abnormal wear or damage for a tire-service request. Uneven wear can have multiple causes, so do not conclude alignment or pressure alone is the fault.
  5. A visually sound tire still needs its cold-pressure check. A damaged / flat tire or age concern requires professional assessment; this inspection does not approve driving.
  6. Record each visible condition and date code by wheel position, including the accessible spare; keep unseen surfaces unknown.

Decision checks

Can all accessible tire surfaces be observed safely with the car on the ground?

  • Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.
  • Not yet / not sure: Preparation saved. Return when the condition is confirmed; leave the vehicle untouched.
  • Flat tire, bulge, cut, exposed material or obvious damage: Damage, wear band, age concern or unreadable code: arrange tire assessment; keep a damaged / flat tire out of use.

Which next step does the tire condition support?

  • Accessible condition and age noted; no visible defect, with pressure check still due: Are accessible wear, damage and age observations recorded without claiming the tire is cleared for driving?
  • Damage, wear band, age concern or unreadable code: arrange tire assessment; keep a damaged / flat tire out of use.: Damage, wear band, age concern or unreadable code: arrange tire assessment; keep a damaged / flat tire out of use.
  • I have only prepared the plan: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.

Are accessible wear, damage and age observations recorded without claiming the tire is cleared for driving?

  • No visible defect found in accessible areas; pressure check remains separate: Accessible condition and age noted; no visible defect, with pressure check still due
  • The observation or repeat check is still incomplete: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
  • Wear band, age concern, damage or unclear code needs assessment: Damage, wear band, age concern or unreadable code: arrange tire assessment; keep a damaged / flat tire out of use.

Recheck

After professional assessment, which tire was repaired/replaced and what condition remains unresolved?

Stop and get help if

  • Flat tire, bulge, cut, exposed material or obvious damage
  • Damage, wear band, age concern or unreadable code: arrange tire assessment; keep a damaged / flat tire out of use.
  • A part, label, connector or fastener differs from the cited manual; access requires raising the vehicle; you cannot identify the correct component.

Check cold tire pressure

Use the vehicle’s pressure label, not the maximum printed on the tire.

Vehicle: 2017 Mazda3 · US

Applicability and exclusions

  • Other model years and markets; imported Axela or diesel models; modified or aftermarket components with a different procedure.
  • Snow-tire setup: the manual has additional pressure instructions on printed p.3-49; have that setup confirmed before using a standard label-only target.

Preparation, tools and materials

  • Park in a safe place away from traffic. Work with the vehicle stationary, parking brake set and ignition off unless a step explicitly calls for a parked functional check.
  • Has the vehicle been parked for at least three hours, with undamaged standard road tires and a readable pressure label?
  • Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
  • Reliable tire-pressure gauge
  • Inflator if adjustment is needed
  • Correct, secure valve caps
  • Your vehicle’s door-frame pressure label

Record the evidence

Copy each real label target and cold gauge reading by wheel position, including any separate spare specification and initialization result.

  • Affected road-tire label target (psi)
  • Affected road-tire cold reading (psi)
  • Wheel position and remaining tire readings
  • Three-hour parked condition, adjustment and TPMS confirmation

Steps

  1. For this routine US placard check, use tires cold after the vehicle has been parked for at least three hours, as defined on printed page 8-30. Do not bleed warm tires to the cold target.
  2. Read the recommended tire pressures on the driver-side door-frame label and compare tire sizes with the vehicle specification. This plan does not supply a guessed PSI.
  3. Measure each road tire while cold and record how it compares with the label. Warm tires read higher; do not bleed warm tires down to a cold specification.
  4. If undamaged standard road tires need adjustment, use the door-frame label target and recheck with a gauge. Refit Mazda-genuine valve caps as required by printed page 6-40.
  5. Inspect the spare’s pressure separately if equipped, using its own specified pressure rather than the road-tire setting.
  6. If equipped with the manual’s TPMS set switch, initialize only after all four tires are set to the door-frame label pressure: park safely with parking brake firmly applied, switch ignition ON, press and hold the set switch, and verify two warning-light flashes and one beep. Never initialize while driving or use initialization to conceal a damaged / low tire. If the switch or confirmation differs, seek help.
  7. If one tire repeatedly needs inflation, arrange inspection. A pressure check cannot clear a damaged tire for driving.
  8. Copy each real label target and cold gauge reading by wheel position, including any separate spare specification and initialization result.

Decision checks

Has the vehicle been parked for at least three hours, with undamaged standard road tires and a readable pressure label?

  • Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.
  • Not yet / not sure: Preparation saved. Return when the condition is confirmed; leave the vehicle untouched.
  • A tire is flat, damaged, repeatedly losing air or the label is unreadable: Damage, recurring pressure loss or a missing specification: arrange tire inspection; do not drive on a flat tire.

What was verified after measuring / adjusting?

  • Cold pressures match the vehicle label, caps secure; any required TPMS follow-up identified: Were all road tires checked against the actual label, and was required initialization confirmed after adjustment?
  • Damage, recurring pressure loss or a missing specification: arrange tire inspection; do not drive on a flat tire.: Damage, recurring pressure loss or a missing specification: arrange tire inspection; do not drive on a flat tire.
  • I have only prepared the plan: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.

Were all road tires checked against the actual label, and was required initialization confirmed after adjustment?

  • All applicable readings and initialization recorded; no damage or loss: Cold pressures match the vehicle label, caps secure; any required TPMS follow-up identified
  • The observation or repeat check is still incomplete: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.
  • A tire loses air again, warning persists or a specification is uncertain: Damage, recurring pressure loss or a missing specification: arrange tire inspection; do not drive on a flat tire.

Recheck

At the next comparable cold check, does a tire need air again, and has the TPMS warning returned?

Prepare a snow-tire fitment plan

Bring the correct wheel, tire and cold-weather requirements to a tire provider before installation.

  • Is the exact US car confirmed and can its tire label and current fitment be read?
  • Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
  • Vehicle door-frame label
  • Current tire sidewall notes
  • Planned winter route
  • No wheels, chains or tires are fitted in this plan

Record the evidence

Save the actual four-wheel specification request and pressure-limit question for the installer.

  • Vehicle label and current four-wheel size/type
  • Winter route and expected conditions
  • Snow-tire pressure/speed requirements for installer review
  • Installer questions and unresolved fitment conflicts

Steps

  1. Copy the actual vehicle-label size and current tire size/type by wheel position. Keep factory and changed fitments distinct.
  2. Plan matching size and type on all four wheels. A partial snow-tire set or an assumed fit from another Mazda needs professional correction.
  3. The snow-tire instructions set a 120 km/h (75 mph) maximum and call for 30 kPa (4.3 psi) above the vehicle label, never above the tire’s maximum cold pressure. Record these for the installer to reconcile with the selected tire’s own limits.
  4. Record any intention to use studs or chains and ask the tire provider to check fit and applicable local rules. This plan contains no chain fitting or wheel-change procedure.
  5. Save the four-wheel specification request, tire pressure question and route conditions. Have the installer confirm the actual target and any stricter tire limits before use.
  6. Save the actual four-wheel specification request and pressure-limit question for the installer.
