What the official report says

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Mustang Mache E vehicles that received a new Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) during a prior repair. The battery energy control module software may cause an incorrect state of charge to display in the vehicle, or lead to an increased risk of a high voltage battery fire after repeated DC Fast Charging cycles.

Official NHTSA campaign record

Why the reported issue matters

An inaccurate state-of-charge reading can lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, a high voltage battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Prepare your observation

Keep existing warnings or observations for service. This guide does not ask you to probe wiring, disconnect a battery or open a high-voltage assembly.

A reported defect describes the campaign. It does not establish what caused a symptom on your individual vehicle, and absence of a symptom does not establish that an open recall is complete.

The reported manufacturer remedy

Dealers will update the BECM software, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed September 18, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in December 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S68. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 9, 2026.

Your campaign-specific service questions

Use these questions with the official report. Keep the answers beside the remedy record; “discussed” records a conversation, not a completed repair.

  1. Does the manufacturer confirm that campaign 26V582000 applies to this VIN, including the report’s equipment and production restrictions?

A matching model and year is only a starting point. The official lookup or manufacturer must establish the individual vehicle’s status.

  2. The source describes a pending remedy or parts. What is available now for this VIN, and which interim instructions still apply?

The dated official record describes development, future availability or a later remedy step. It does not establish today’s parts or appointment availability. Confirm the current remedy and any interim instructions with the manufacturer.

  3. Do prior repair records show a replacement Battery Energy Control Module that places this VIN within 26S68?

The source concerns vehicles that received a new BECM during an earlier repair. Bring that dated record rather than assuming all model-year vehicles are affected.

  4. What current charging and parking instructions does Ford give while the final BECM remedy is outstanding?

The source associates repeated DC Fast Charging with increased fire risk. Confirm current instructions directly; do not repeat charging cycles to test the concern.

  5. Which electrical component or software function is covered, and what interim charging, parking or use instructions does the manufacturer give?

Compare the answer with the reported component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM):SOFTWARE.

  6. Which module and software completion record demonstrate that the update for 26V582000 was applied?

Ask the service provider how the campaign-specific software remedy is documented. A dashboard reset is not evidence of the specified update.

  7. What dated document records the remedy performed under 26V582000, and what should I do if the reported concern remains?

Keep campaign completion and unresolved symptoms as separate questions. A saved worksheet or booked appointment does not establish a repair.
