Work through the stages in order. Open the linked plans to make the relevant observations, then return here to keep the result.
STAGE 1
Record separate fluid readings
Use the correct condition for each fluid; a cold coolant observation and engine-off oil reading are not interchangeable.
Keep: Dated oil-range and cold MIN/MAX observations, their measurement conditions and any warnings.
- Check engine oil level No current task record
- Inspect the coolant reservoir No current task record
STAGE 2
Confirm usable washer spray
Identify the actual washer tank and product; refill only a confirmed low level and observe the result.
Keep: Before level, product and actual parked spray result, with leakage or no-spray left open.
- Refill the windshield washer reservoir No current task record
STAGE 3
Choose each follow-up
Review all recorded fluid and spray observations together without letting a normal result cancel an unrelated symptom.
Keep: A baseline sheet with one next check or service action for oil, coolant and washers.
- Check engine oil level No current task record
- Inspect the coolant reservoir No current task record
- Refill the windshield washer reservoir No current task record
Review your next step
- Each reading has a date and the correct measurement conditions.
- Normal coolant level has not closed any overheating complaint.
- Only actual spray and actual levels are recorded; unfinished checks remain visible.
Include the unresolved items so this record is useful at the next check or service visit.

Check engine oil level
Read the dipstick correctly before deciding whether oil is needed.
Vehicle: 2015 Honda Fit · US
Applicability and exclusions
- Other model years and markets; imported Jazz or Fit Hybrid; modified or aftermarket components with a different procedure.
Preparation, tools and materials
- Park in a safe place away from traffic. Work with the vehicle stationary, parking brake set and ignition off unless a step explicitly calls for a parked functional check.
- Is the car on level ground, with the engine off and safe access to the dipstick?
- Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
- Clean lint-free cloth
- Good lighting
- No fluid is required for the level check.
Record the evidence
Record the two dipstick readings and the measurement conditions; a smeared reading stays unreadable.
- Repeatable oil level
- Ground, engine-off wait and repeated reading
- Warning or visible wetness
- Next level check or service action
Steps
- Leave the vehicle on level ground and turn the engine off. Wait approximately three minutes before reading the oil, as specified in the Honda manual.
- Identify the orange engine-oil dipstick using the manual. Keep hands clear of hot parts and the fan; leave the oil filler and other caps closed.
- Pull the dipstick out and wipe it with a clean cloth. Reinsert it fully, then pull it out again to read the level.
- Compare the oil film with the upper and lower marks. Repeat a full wipe-and-reinsert reading if the first result is smeared.
- Reinsert the dipstick fully. A near/below-lower result calls for the manual’s adding-oil procedure with the specified oil; this checklist ends at the measurement.
- Record the two dipstick readings and the measurement conditions; a smeared reading stays unreadable.
Decision checks
Is the car on level ground, with the engine off and safe access to the dipstick?
- Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.

Open the task and record an observationInspect the coolant reservoir
Observe the reserve-tank level without opening a pressurized cooling cap.
- Is the engine fully cool and is the reserve tank positively identified from printed page 368?
- Keep children and pets away from tools, fluids and coin cells. Never enter underneath the vehicle.
- Good lighting
- No coolant for this visual-only inspection.
Record the evidence
Keep the cold MIN/MAX observation separate from temperature symptoms and previous additions.
- Cold reserve-tank level
- Cooling conditions and visibility of marks
- Overheating, temperature warning or steam history
- Previous low readings, additions or visible wetness
Steps
- Let the engine and radiator cool completely. Leave the radiator cap closed throughout this check.
- Use the manual’s reserve-tank drawing to identify the tank. Look through its side at the MIN and MAX marks.
- Read the level without opening either cap. If dirt prevents reading, stop and get help identifying the level rather than guessing.
- Look only at accessible surfaces for wetness or repeated evidence of leakage; keep away from the fan and hot components.
- Record between marks, below MIN, or empty. A low non-empty tank may require the manual’s Honda Type 2 coolant procedure; an empty tank / recurring loss needs service.
- Keep the cold MIN/MAX observation separate from temperature symptoms and previous additions.
Decision checks
Is the engine fully cool and is the reserve tank positively identified from printed page 368?
- Yes — ready for this check: Continue with the steps, stopping if the real component differs from the manual.
- Not yet / not sure: Preparation saved. Return when the condition is confirmed; leave the vehicle untouched.
- Steam, overheating, an empty tank or visible coolant leakage: Empty reservoir, below MIN, recurrent loss, overheating or a leak: arrange cooling-system service; leave the radiator cap closed.
Which reserve-tank result is visible?
- Level between MIN and MAX: Has overheating, a temperature warning, steam or repeated coolant loss occurred, even though the level may look normal?
- Below MIN, but not empty: Have you observed repeated coolant loss or accessible evidence of a leak?
- Tank is empty, leaking or engine overheated: Empty reservoir, below MIN, recurrent loss, overheating or a leak: arrange cooling-system service; leave the radiator cap closed.
- I cannot read or identify the marks: Level cannot be read. Leave caps closed and get help identifying the reserve tank and marks before making a fluid decision.
- I have only prepared the plan: Plan prepared; no physical maintenance result recorded.

Record the evidence
Record the actual tank and product, before level and whether spray reached the glass after closure.
- Washer-fluid product and suitable conditions
- Level before refill
- Parked spray after refill
- Cap fit, spill or visible leakage
Steps
- With the engine off and access safe, identify the washer-fluid reservoir using the manual’s drawing.
- Read the level through the reservoir if your vehicle has no level sensor; if equipped, note the low-washer indication.
- If the identified washer reservoir is low, open only its cap and pour appropriate washer fluid carefully without overflowing. If its level is adequate, leave it closed. Keep engine antifreeze and vinegar mixtures out of this tank.
- Close the cap and wipe up any spill. From the driver’s seat, make a brief washer check with the vehicle stationary and people clear.
- If spray remains absent, stop repeated attempts and arrange washer-system inspection rather than replacing a pump on assumption.
- Record the actual tank and product, before level and whether spray reached the glass after closure.
